Video: Opening Day at Miami Dade College’s South Campus

Miami Dade College’s South Campus, located at Southwest 112th Avenue and 104th Street, was designed to serve 10,000 students. Its location — fairly remote and undeveloped in the mid-1960s — was chosen to accommodate future population growth and highway construction, to grow with the surrounding area. Parking for 3,000 vehicles, landscaped with trees, surrounded the campus’ academic core, which was laid out so that the walking time from any parking space to the core would be no more than five minutes.

South Campus was “up to the minute” in technology. Not only its data management systems but its instructional technology were state of the art, furthering the goal of improving the efficiency and quality of the College’s educational programs.
