Freedom TowerMiami is a slate, written on, erased, only to be written on again. The city has stories to tell – but some chapters are missing, wiped away.

But with each new addition, some trace of what was there before remains. Learning From Miami is devoted to telling more of Miami’s stories, to looking under the surface, peeling back new layers to see what’s underneath, and to evoking what is no more through video and photographs.

Learning From Miami is a collaborative effort, bringing together the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives, Miami Dade College’s School of Architecture and Interior Design, and HistoryMiami as partners, each making its own unique contribution:

  • From the Wolfson Archives, a vast and unique collection of film and video images that record the history and culture of Florida across a century;
  • From the School of Architecture and Interior Design, knowledge and expertise of the history, influences and construction of Miami’s buildings and built spaces, past and present;
  • From HistoryMiami, the curatorial support and historical knowledge that can only be provided by a major museum of regional history.

Learning From Miami’s projects embrace cutting-edge technology in a search for Miami’s past. These projects include:

and this website, the hub of all of these activities.
